The Real Maacoy
Maacoy, or Mackey as we call him, was put on a NG tube after being diagnosed with Eosinophilic Esophagitis. His mom, our CEO, quickly learned how difficult placing, securing, and maintaining a NG tube is. From there, Mackey Mask was born!
Our Mission
"Our Mission is to create products that make "life in the meantime" easier for caregivers, families, and the patients living with a NG tube. That NG tubes are made more manageable, secure, and comfortable, and that patient care continues to push toward the highest and best experiences possible."
Meet Tara, CEO & the Inventor of Mackey Mask
Tara spent years as a consultant for one of the world's largest information technology and consulting firms, identifying weakness and implementing technology to make products and companies stronger. She applied the same technique to her own life when she unexpectedly found herself as the primary caregiver to her child when he was placed on a NG tube.
Our Story
They say necessity is the mother of invention, Mackey Mask was exactly that. When Mackey Mask creator, Tara Melton's son was put on a NG tube, she was quickly introduced to how ineffective, wasteful, and harsh on the skin the adhesives available to secure the tubes were. Not to mention how difficult the process was for a parent and caregiver to place the tubes to begin with. She was convinced there had to be a better way. After seeking answers from doctors, therapists, nursing staff, and other experts she realized that there was not. Watching her son, Maacoy struggle with his health and struggle with the tube inspired her to make a change. She came up with the concept in her car and sketched a rough representation of what she was envisioning in her head, but it was a start. She spent the next year working on the design and development of Mackey Mask because she was convinced that it was needed. Tara believed it would have drastically improved her family's experience and Maacoy's experience living with the NG tube. It is her hope, and the mission of Mackey Mask, that our products make "life in the meantime" easier for caregivers, families, and the patients living with a NG tube. That NG tubes are made more manageable, secure, and comfortable, and that patient care continues to push toward the highest and best experiences possible. We are honored to have your families be a part of that change.
